How to Start with an Eye Hero

I’ve got Eye Hero from my provider. What now?

Eye Hero is a vision training program you use at home, guided by your eye care provider. Our innovative dichoptic software uses red and green glasses to balance visual input to support visual processing & perceptual learning. Built on evidence-based studies, this newest technology ensures progress with every minute of training. This page walks you through setup and what to expect so you can start confidently.

Step 1

Unbox your Eye Hero kit

Inside your Eye Hero box you’ll find:

  • Red and green training glasses
  • An activation code

Scan the QR code in the box to access the user manual at any time.

Step 2

Create account and activate your program

To get started, log in to the Eye Hero portal and activate your program using the activation code from your box.

Inside the portal, you’ll find everything you need in one place:

  • Dashboard – your home screen with an overview of your training calendar and activity
  • Downloads – where you download Eye Hero to your computer or tablet
  • Statistics – where your vision training progress is tracked over time
  • Help & Support – FAQs and direct access to customer support if needed

Step 3

Complete the first-time onboarding (takes just a few minutes)

Before you start training, Eye Hero guides you through a short setup to make sure everything looks right on your screen and through the glasses. This helps the program personalize the training specifically for you.

You’ll be guided to:

  • Calibrate your screen (size and color)
  • Complete a few quick tests so the training starts at the right training mode

This setup is completed once at the beginning.

Step 4

Start your daily vision training

Once setup is complete, you begin with exercises by clicking on the “daily training” button. Daily training guides you through the training steps, which altogether take approximately 30 minutes. You can complete your training in one session (with mandatory break in-between) or split it into two shorter blocks.

For best results, we recommend training at least 5 times per week.

Step 5

Stay consistent

Eye Hero is designed to work best with consistent practice. Regular sessions lead to the best long-term results! Your provider may review your progress to better support your treatment.

My son has been using eye hero for a few months now. I have seen improvement in his eye turn. The games are fun for him. The only thing I wish could be different is that the games are timed so he gets frustrated when he is playing and it just stops.

My 7 year old son has been using this for about three months for his exotropic strabismus and we’ve had really good results so far. The difference I’ve seen since using it, is that he’s now able to control his eye turning outward now where as before the turning of the eye was involuntary and he wasn’t able to control it. Now he can turn his eye outward whenever he wants to (when he wants to be funny or do his cool trick) and then he can bring his back to a normal position all by himself. He’s able to control it now where as before he couldn’t.

My son has been using Eye Hero for a few months now. He was really engaged in the beginning and I noticed quick improvements. Then he was slightly bored but they added newer games and that got him into it again. Overall I like the platform. There are a couple little glitchy things, and because we're not using their eye doctor specifically it isn't giving us as much feedback on his progress as I originally expected. That said as an affordable extra eye PT I think this is a great tool, and I hope they continue to improve it so that the weekly tests and progress might include more for parents to see and understand on their child's vision changes.

After just two months of using Eye Hero my daughter's vision has improved! She was using it more consistent when she began, but has gotten a little bored with some of the games. Overall this is a great tool for children with vision problems and helps to engage them in therapy much easier than reading charts.

We haven't had an eye exam since starting Eye Hero, so I can's comment on if it's actually improving my son's vision. However, we've been pleased with the program itself. It is a fun, engaging App that doesn't feel like "work" for my 8 year old. He likes being able to gain coins and characters, like a real video game. Once we have our eye exam, and if we have improved vision, I will forever sing the praises of Eye Hero!
